Vera Village
Mums & Bubs Group

Gather | Share | Connect | Redefine

Connection and community are the foundations of our Vera Village Mum & Bubs Groups.

This is a time to sit with two women’s health professionals and older mums, Lauren Williams, a midwife, and Paula Hindle, a holistic physiotherapist, who value the work of mothering. These women will empower, support and bear witness to this sacred phase of your life - motherhood.

Deepen your connection with self and your baby through our women’s circle with conversation, and physio-based yoga, pilates and relaxation practices over five weeks.

  • Option to be a part of a group ‘Closing of the Bones’ ceremony on the sixth week (*additional fee applies).

Who can join?

We invite all maternal caregivers with a baby aged between 4 weeks to 6 months (pre-crawlers) to join our community and share your experiences, worries, parenting successes, and hardships. Our Mums & Bubs Group is for all maternal caregivers - you don’t need to be a Vera patient to join us.

Make new friends, learn something new each week and enjoy this time to focus on YOU! You will leave feeling rejuvenated, nourished and connected to our Vera Village.

We intentionally keep our Mums & Bubs Group small. Places are limited to up to 8 mothers.

The Experience

Over five weeks we will focus on a key area to honour what you have been through, discover what has changed for you in becoming a mother and emerge with a new definition of self and connection to community. Listen, learn, laugh, move your body and reflect on stories told and the wisdom of each other. We are here to mother the mother, because the mother-baby attachment means what impacts one, impacts the other.

Each session will incorporate movement with yoga and pilates.

The drive to the beautiful Samford Valley is part of the experience (with a chance for your baby to sleep in the car).

Closing of the Bones Ceremony

We believe in the quiet power of ritual and purpose of ceremony to honour rites of passage. Matrescence, is the transition of mother-becoming, the re-defining journey of growth and change in all domains of your life that occurs from maiden to mother. We extend an extra offering for those mothers in the group wishing to take part in a ‘Closing of the Bones’ ceremony on the sixth week (*additional charge applies) to honour and support the profound transitions you have undergone physically, mentally and emotionally.

Closing the bones is a deeply nurturing postpartum ritual rooted in the wisdom of traditional practices found in various cultures. This holistic approach recognises the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit and the significance of birth as a rite of passage.

This practice can be transformational for any postpartum mother –whether you are 3 days or 30 years postpartum– as communities we have the responsibility to care for mothers and through this, bring healing to their families and communities.  So, we are doing our bit and invite you and a companion (sister, mother, friend) to join us for gentle and nourishing 2-hour ritual (we strongly recommend without your baby if this is at all possible) to honour your rite of passage and experience a sense of calm, grounding, and connection.

  • What to expect:

Our ceremony involves gathering within your group, bringing along a supportive friend or family member to enhance the ritual's impact, fostering a sense of community and shared experience that is vital during this transformative period. A womb massage, which helps in realigning and soothing the body after the intense physical changes of pregnancy and birth, and the wrapping of scarves around the body at key points, symbolically and physically encouraging the body to return to its pre-pregnancy state.

Beyond the physical benefits, on an energetic and spiritual level, closing the bones ritual offers emotional and psychological support, creating a sacred space to reflect, release, and reconnect with the new version of yourself.

We recommend if it is at all possible to attend this ceremony without your baby, or bring someone along to assist you so you can fully immerse yourself. We understand if this is not something you feel comfortable with, and will do our best to support you in getting the full experience.
