Dr Challis Paterson
General Practitioner
B.ExNS, MD, FRACGP
Dr Challis Paterson brings fresh experience to General Practice at Vera Wellness. As a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP, 2025), Challis combines conventional medical expertise with an integrative understanding of a person’s health needs
Challis's approach to healthcare is founded on the understanding that optimal health encompasses an entire lifestyle, including nutrition, movement, quality sleep, stress management, nervous system regulation and appropriate light exposure. Her treatment philosophy focuses on addressing root causes rather than simply managing symptoms, leading to more effective and lasting results for her patients.
With a special interest in women's health, Challis is passionate about empowering women through education and comprehensive care. She understands that women are physiologically, hormonally, and metabolically unique, requiring personalised approaches to healthcare.
Challis’ journey in healthcare began with a Bachelor of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences from the University of Queensland, followed by her Doctor of Medicine degree, which she completed in 2018. Prior to becoming a GP, her years in the public healthcare system had a particular focus on paediatrics and paediatric surgery, and have given her a comprehensive understanding of healthcare across different life stages.
Challis does take bookings for children and male patients also.
Her areas of interest include:
· Menstrual health & hormonal management
· Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
· Perimenopause and menopause support
· Mental health and anxiety
· Antenatal care
· Lifestyle and longevity medicine
· Metabolic Health
· Skin checks and excisions
Challis’ personal experience with health challenges in her younger years has shaped her commitment to providing clear, comprehensive information and support to her patients. She believes strongly that health is wealth and knowledge is power, making patient education a cornerstone of her practice.
Growing up in a household exposed to various Eastern medicine practices, Challis maintains an open-minded approach to healthcare, recognising the value of both traditional Western medicine and evidence-based complementary therapies. This background has fostered her interest in integrative medicine, allowing her to draw from multiple therapeutic approaches to provide comprehensive care for her patients.
Challis lives on the sunny Gold Coast and enjoys getting out to the beach in the mornings for a walk or a swim. She’s an avid reader and in her down time will most likely have her nose in a book, soaking up some sunshine. She loves the creativity of cooking, which is a love language she learnt from her mother.
A “forever student”, Challis is enthusiastic about expanding her current knowledge and skill set more into the areas of circadian biology, autonomic nervous system regulation, and energy medicine. This ongoing commitment to professional development ensures her patients receive the most current and effective care available.
At Vera Wellness, Challis continues her mission of providing compassionate, patient-centered care that acknowledges and addresses the unique health needs of a person at every stage of life.
