Sensing Safety Online

With Claire Stephensen

Current intake postponed to 2025

Do you feel okay in the world, in your relationships, work and your general life?

When we are overwhelmed and stressed, our logical thinking suffers and we lose the ability to find words.

Our somatic therapist, Claire Stephensen, has turned her popular Sensing Safety Workshop into an online experience. Somatic therapy connects to your feelings, emotions and sensations. It provides tools to support you feeling emotionally well and safe in your body, your world and general life by supporting your nervous system so you can rediscover clarity, purpose and direction.

Over four workshops, Sensing Safety will provide foundational science-based somatic tools, as well as a supportive process to move more fully towards safety as we navigate pain, stress, grief and trauma. From a place of safety, we are able to find deep self-compassion and freedom with more ease.

Safety is something we experience in our bodies.

From a place of safety, we are able to find deep self-compassion and freedom.

    • How safety is not a binary concept - Unsafe vs Safe - but rather a whole world to explore

    • How you personally experience safety differently depending on your life experiences, relationships, identities, skin colour, gender or neurotype

    • The primary intellectual theories around safety

    • How Embodied Emergency responses of fight, flight, freeze, fawn show up in your actions or inaction (with deep compassion every step of the way)

    • Your personal map back towards safety

    • Basic trauma neuroscience

    • The cyclical nature of safety

    • The felt experience of safety

    • The challenge of turning towards safety while living in a culture of shame and/or navigating the world of chronic pain or trauma

  • Anchor and Rebel.

We will gather foundational somatic tools, acknowledge the survival strategies we’ve needed so far and begin to rebel against the neural wiring of the culture we live in and the experiences we’ve had. The somatic skills we will use include tracking, resourcing and pushing against. You will leave the session with greater self-compassion and confidence when tending to everyday stressors.

  • Beyond the noise of expectation and demand, we will listen to what we want and yearn for and practice the process of seeking safety (rather than threat). In this workshop we will use deep listening as a technique to compassionately hear what we want and to drop below our thinking mind and into our senses for what safety might feel like.

  • Once we’ve been able to seek safety, we practice moving closer towards it so we can begin to replenish and nourish ourselves more deeply. In this workshop we will expand our capacity for safety by using the skills of proximity and receptivity – skills that allow you to sincerely receive the care that safety has to offer.

  • We will explore the safety cycle, how the sensing safety process might work in everyday life and write your new safety story as you move back into the world. You will leave this workshop with real world applications, a new mindset towards safety and an empowered sense of self.
